New GIS Hub Data Portal

The GIS Hub Data Portal has been upgraded.  While the past GIS Hub Data Portal has served us well and will continue to be available until the end of March 2017, it has become dated and is not designed to work on mobile devices. The new GIS Hub Data Portal provides a fresh, new interface and is designed to work on desktop computers, phones and tablets.  The new GIS Hub Data Portal is built upon a platform that also provides open data capabilities which we hope to leverage in the future.

The primary purpose of the Hub Data Portal is to make GIS Hub data, which is maintained by the North Dakota GIS Technical Committee data stewards, publicly available as downloads and as web-based data services. Data is found by searching or by simply browsing the data found in Datasets, Groups, or Topics:

When browsing or searching, be on the lookout for the filters such as Topics, Tags, and Format that can be applied to help limit the number of items being displayed.  Also take note of the colorful data type icons associated with each dataset to help you identify what sort of resources are associated with each dataset:

Each resource within a dataset corresponds to a method of accessing the dataset, for example, downloading the data and viewing the data in tabular format:

If the tabular data is point data containing latitude and longitude, that information can be mapped.  For example, click on the Preview button:

And then click on the Map tab:

We hope this quick introduction to the new GIS Hub Data Portal provides enough information to get you started using it.  If you have any questions, please contact us.
